With Original Score by Composer Rani Sharone

From acclaimed graphic novelist Dash Shaw (New School) comes an audacious debut that is equal parts disaster cinema, high school comedy and blockbuster satire, told through a dream-like mixed media animation style that incorporates drawings, paintings and collage. Dash (Jason Schwartzman) and his best friend Assaf (Reggie Watts) are preparing for another year at Tides High School muckraking on behalf of their widely-distributed but little-read school newspaper, edited by their friend Verti (Maya Rudolph). But just when a blossoming relationship between Assaf and Verti threatens to destroy the boys’ friendship, Dash learns of the administration’s cover-up that puts all the students in danger. As disaster erupts and the friends race to escape through the roof of the school, they are joined by a popular know-it- all (Lena Dunham) and a lunch lady (Susan Sarandon) who is much more than meets the eye.

But even as the film piles on brilliant details like a post-apocalyptic cult formed by jocks, video game homages, and an infectious synth soundtrack, it never loses sight of the characters at the heart of the story. Hailed as “the most original animated film of the year” and “John Hughes for the Adult Swim generation” (Indiewire), the film’s everyday concerns of friendships, cliques and young love remind us how the high school experience continues to shape who we become, even in the most unusual of circumstances.

Rani Sharone is a Los Angles based multi instrumentalist and composer of Film, TV, and Video Game music as well as music for the concert stage. His musical journey is as varied and unconventional as his music. In the summer of 2010 just days after his experimental rock band Stolen Babies performed on the main stage at Mera Luna, a very prominent Gothic music festival in Germany, he got on a plane heading to beautiful Sundance, Utah to participate as a fellow in the Sundance Film Composers Lab, where he was one of six composers chosen for the highly coveted spot and incredible opportunity that led to many of his current working relationships.

For years, Rani has had one foot firmly planted in the rock world as a recording artist, producer and touring musician and another in the realm of film, electronic and contemporary classical music. He’s worked with many well known and influential artists including Puscifer (featuring Maynard James Keenan of TOOL), Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Marilyn Manson and composer/producer Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, Watchmen) to name a few. Rani also had the pleasure of composing, “Tick,” a piece for world renowned classical violinist Hilary Hahn which she performed at her 2013 recital at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Some of Rani’s recent credits include additional music for the highly acclaimed TV shows SAMURAI JACK (Season 5) and RAY DONOVAN (Season 4), as well for the feature films AMERICAN ULTRA, and ROCK THE KASBAH. Around his scoring schedule Rani is currently working on new music for Stolen Babies and his Dark Wave/Industrial solo project THRILLSVILLE.
