Featuring Original Music Composed By Carter Burwell
With Classic Songs Performed by Artists Including Doris Day, The Ramblers, Bob Gaddy And His Alley Cats and The Film’s Michael Keaton and Linda Cardellini
(February 7, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande Records will release a soundtrack for the original motion picture THE FOUNDER digitally on February 10 and on CD February 24, 2017. The film features original music composed by Carter Burwell (CAROL, FARGO), with classic tracks by artists including Doris Day, The Ramblers, Bob Gaddy And His Alley Cats, The Dixieaires, and a special performance of the beloved classic “Pennies From Heaven” by stars Michael Keaton and Linda Cardellini.
“The film tells the story of Ray Kroc and his popularization of McDonald’s,” Burwell stated. “Among the musical threads are his Midwestern background, played with guitar, mandolin, strings and woodwinds; the inner voice of this over-driven off-kilter middle-American, played with piano; and his patriotic fervor in spreading the gospel of fast food from sea to shining sea, played with drum corps and brass band,” Burwell added.
Directed by John Lee Hancock (SAVING MR. BANKS), THE FOUNDER features the true story of how Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton), a struggling salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers’ speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. Writer Robert Siegel (THE WRESTLER) details how Kroc maneuvered himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion-dollar empire. The film also stars Laura Dern as Ray Kroc’s first wife Ethel; John Carroll Lynch as Mac McDonald and Nick Offerman as Dick McDonald.
“We agreed early on that it would be interesting to play Kroc’s view of McDonald’s as if it were a patriotic or military campaign,” Burwell explained. “But the director, John Lee Hancock, also wanted a less ironic view of Kroc, especially at the beginning of the story, so that we could relate to his character. This we got through more intimate, traditional sounds of piano and guitar.”
Carter Burwell has composed the music for more than 80 feature films, including BLOOD SIMPLE, RAISING ARIZONA, Miller’s Crossing, Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy, Rob Roy, Fargo, The Spanish Prisoner, Gods and Monsters, Velvet Goldmine, Three Kings, Being John Malkovich, O Brother, Where Art Thou?
