LORNE BALFE AT PLAYFEST VIDEO GAME MUSIC FESTIVAL

Lorne Balfe

BEYOND: Two Souls™, Featuring Music by Balfe, To Be Released October 8

(August 27, 2013- Los Angeles, CA) Composer Lorne Balfe (The Sweeney, Assassins Creed III video game) is proud to announce a headlining performance at Playfest in Málaga, Spain September 5-8, 2013. In addition Playstation will be releasing the BEYOND: Two Souls™ game, featuring original music composed by Lorne Balfe, October 8th. Balfe earned his first Emmy nomination this year with his score for Restless.

“Performing this music in front of such an enthusiastic audience is going to be fantastic,” said Balfe.  “We have spent years creating this music and to have the gamers choosing their favorite pieces to be performed is making this concert very special to all of us. In addition to the performance of the fan favorites, I am particularly excited to be premiering two suites from the score of the upcoming game, BEYOND: Two Souls. Playfest is shaping up to be a truly unique experience that none of us will soon forget!”

Balfe is not only a highly sought-after video game composer — he is a Grammy award winning and BAFTA nominated film composer from Inverness, Scotland.  Lorne is known for composing the scores to the Dreamworks’ animation Megamind, and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed III.  Balfe earned his first Emmy nomination for the BBC and Sundance Channel mini-series Restless.

Balfe’s recent solo projects have kept him hard at work in the UK, composing for IroncladThe Sweeney, and the upcoming films, Not Another Happy Ending (starring Karen Gillian of Doctor Who), Side by Side, the documentary Salinger, and the upcoming film, The Frozen Ground, starring John Cusack, Nicolas Cage and Vanessa Hudgens. In collaboration with composer, Rachel Portman, Lorne has just completed the music for 10×10′s feature documentary, Girl Rising, directed by Academy Award nominee, Richard E. Robbins that features narration by actresses such as Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett.

When he hasn’t been composing for film, Balfe has found additional footing in the video game world. In 2011, Balfe composed alongside Jesper Kyd for the game, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Music. A year later in 2012, Balfe was already hard at work composing as a solo composer for Skylanders: GiantsAssassin’s Creed III (which earned Balfe his second BAFTA nomination for Best Original Music) and Assassin’s Creed III: The Tyranny of King Washington.

Balfe’s ability to travel between the two worlds of film and video games is a perfect fit for the upcoming Playstation® 3 release, BEYOND: Two Souls.  “Games are just the same as films.  You start off with stills or the actual artwork that’s drawn inspiration to them,” said Balfe.  “People ask is it a film or is it a game.  There is no difference, not to me.  You could sit there and watch it as a film.  The way to musically tell the story is the same process.”

From the visionary mind of David Cage, director of the award-winning Heavy Rain, comes the most powerfully emotional experience on PlayStation® 3. A singularly unique psychological action thriller delivered by A-list Hollywood performances by Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, BEYOND: Two Souls™ takes you on a thrilling journey across the globe as you play out the remarkable life of Jodie Holmes.

You can hear Balfe’s music for numerous games including a sneak preview of BEYOND: Two Souls™ at PLAYFEST in Málaga Spain in a special concert on September 7, 2013.
