SPARKS & SHADOWS TO RELEASE THE SOUNDTRACK FOR ‘EUROPA REPORT’

Original Music by Emmy Nominee Bear McCreary

(July 29, 2013 – Culver City, CA) Sparks & Shadows, a new boutique record label founded by composer Bear McCreary (MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D, THE WALKING DEAD), announces the release of the EUROPA REPORT Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.  The album will be available through Amazon.com, select soundtrack sellers, and all digital providers on August 2, 2013.

“Early on, I was very tempted to really play with the found footage element and have very little music – to actually play with a lot of silences or sounds of the spaceship,” said director Sebastián Cordero.  “However, the minute we started editing the film together, we realized there was a huge risk of losing the human side of the story if we didn’t enhance it with music.”

BEAR MCCREARY’S BEST WEEK EVER

(July 29, 2013 – Culver City, CA) The week of July 15th may be Bear McCreary’s best week ever as a composer.  The week began with the announcement that he would be performing at Comic Con as part of the sneak preview screening of BLACK SAILS, his second television series with STARZ, set to launch January 2014.  Later that day Entertainment Weekly revealed that McCreary is the composer on the highly anticipated ABC TV series MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. And on that Thursday it was announced that McCreary earned his second Emmy nomination for the DA VINCI’S DEMONS Main Title.

“Collaborating with David S. Goyer and composing music for DA VINCI’S DEMONS was a richly rewarding experience that forced me to rethink my creative process on a fundamental level,” said McCreary  “I am very proud of the work we created, and honored to be recognized in the main title category, alongside some of the best composers writing today.”

SONY MUSIC RELEASES ‘THE WOLVERINE’ ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

MUSIC BY MARCO BELTRAMI FOR A NEW INSTALMENT IN THE X-MEN SERIES

Sony Music is proud to announce the release of the original motion picture soundtrack of The Wolverine, composed by the Oscar-nominated Marco Beltrami.  Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan.  Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.  Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality. The film opens nationwide on July 26, 2013.

New York-born Beltrami has twice been nominated for Academy Awards: for his work on the Western remake 3:10 to Yuma (2007), and for Best Original Score for his music for The Hurt Locker (2010). He studied at the Yale School of Music and in Italy, before learning the trade of film composition with the great Jerry Goldsmith. Beltrami’s career began with the soundtrack of the thriller Death Match in 1994, and he gained renown for his work on horror films such as Mimic (1997), The Woman in Black (2012), and all four films in the Scream series (1995–2011). He has also composed two soundtracks for the Die Hard franchise: Live Free or Die Hard and A Good Day to Die Hard. His versatile talents have, however, taken him far beyond this genre to work on independent films, for which he gained two prestigious awards: a Satellite Award for Best Original Score for the drama film Soul Surfer, and in 2012 the Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Score for the critically acclaimed The Sessions.

Soundtrack Review: THE AVENGERS (Alan Silvestri)

Music Composed and Conducted by Alan Silvestri
Label: Hollywood/Intrada
Catalogue: D001759402
Release Date: 01/05/2012
Rating: ****

After years  and having hyped it in all the possible ways through ‘introductory’ stand alone movies, Paramount finally in 2012 hit the screens with its’ The Avengers’ movie.  The movie in itself is as bombastic, flashy and exaggerated as it can be, and that’s exactly why it works: you don’t put together four Marvel heroes into a motion picture without inserting action and explosions. There’s no real thought here, the deepness of the plot sacrificed to the purpose of showing a(nother) battle between good and evil, spiced up with doom and a bit of irony, courtesy mostly of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. Surprisingly enough, Joss Whedon is able to give all the team’s members, and even the secondary characters, enough screen time, though it’s obviously recommended to watch the previous movies to completely understand the full plot, because it is the result that all those movies together were pointing to.
