CHRISTOPHER YOUNG SCORES ‘SINISTER’

(Los Angeles, CA) September 13, 2012—Award-winning composer Christopher Young scores Summit Entertainment’s horror film Sinister. Opening in theaters on Friday, October 5, 2012, Sinister stars Academy Award nominated actor Ethan Hawke (Training Day) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent). Sinister is the story of a true-crime novelist who discovers how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity. The film marks Young’s second collaboration with director Scott Derrickson who he previously worked with for the gruesome film The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Christopher Young used all electronic eerie and chilling sounds to compose the score for Sinister. Young’s gripping composing style has created many spine-tingling scores to horror films including Drag Me to Hell, Hellraiser, and The Grudge film series.

With over 100 credits to his name, award-winning composer Christopher Young has a unique and imaginative approach to scoring that is heard throughout his expansive credit list. Young has written music for romantic comedies including When in Rome to thrillers including Spiderman 3. Young’s score for his most recent project, The Rum Diary, was jazz infused with improvisational qualities, reminiscent of bachelor pad music from the 1960s. For his work on the film The Vagrant, Young incorporated breathing effects into the score which elevated the sounds to an eerier plain. He also created an offbeat theme for The Man Who Knew Too Little, starring Bill Murray, and employed an 80-piece orchestra for the film Creation. Young’s other film credits include The Hurricane and Shipping News.

Christopher Young has received numerous accolades throughout his celebrated career. He was honored at the Temecula International Film & Music Festival with the award for Outstanding Career Achievement. He has been nominated for two Emmys and received both Golden Globe and Broadcast Film Critics Association Award nominations for The Shipping News. Young has also received BMI’s highest honor, The Richard Kirk Career Achievement Award. In addition to his busy film-composing schedule, Young has taught at USC since the early nineties and bought a housing building to offer free residency to fledgling young composers who come to Los Angeles.

MARCO BELTRAMI SCORES ‘TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE’

Two Time Academy Award Nominated Composer Marco Beltrami Scores ‘Trouble with the Curve’, opening September 21
Album Available on Varese Sarabande October 2

(WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA) September 11, 2012— Two time Academy Award nominated composer Marco Beltrami scores Trouble with the Curve, opening September 21. The film’s all star cast includes Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake, and John Goodman. This is the first film Eastwood has starred in but not directed in nine years (In the Line of Fire). The film marks the first feature-length directorial debut of Robert Lorenz, Eastwood’s Assistant Director for 15 years, with projects including Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, and Blood Work. Varese Sarabande will release the soundtrack album for Trouble with the Curve October 2. Composer Marco Beltrami provides an emotional score that supports the touching relationship between father and daughter and also the heroics of the game of baseball.

Beltrami’s original score incorporates soloists, including elements of acoustic guitar, harp, and various other woodwinds to create an understated yet deceptively simple score. Additionally, Beltrami recorded with a full orchestra at the Warner Bros.’ Eastwood Scoring Stage [named after Eastwood for his contribution to the renovation] to give scope to the bigger musical moments in the film. “The music needed a delicate balance to support the film and to further support the emotion without getting in the way of the actors’ great performances,” explained Beltrami.

Composer Marco Beltrami established an early reputation as a genre innovator with non-traditional horror scores for the Scream franchise, The Woman in Black, and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Beltrami’s musical palette has since expanded to virtually all film genres. He has received accolades for his musical style including Oscar nominations for Best Original Score for Hurt Locker and 3:10 to Yuma. He has received two Critic’s Choice Award nominations, and he was Emmy nominated for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series for The Practice. Last year, he won the Golden Satellite Award for Best Score from The International Press Academy for Soul Surfer. Marco Beltrami has just completed scoring The Sessions starring John Hawkes and Helen Hunt which opens in limited release October 26.
