FIMUCITÉ 4 will take place between the 5th and 10th of July and pay homage to one of the most important composers of cinema history, John Williams, with special emphasis on the exceptional duo Williams-Spielberg. Thus, the organizers hope that in this “fourth phase” the public will be abducted like in Close Encounters of the Third Kind by the concerts, screenings and parallel activities. This years´ poster, designed by Carlos Miranda, reflects this fruitful collaboration. Furthermore, this years´ Festival also pays tribute to another great composer, Alex North and the celebration of his centenary.
Diego Navarro, the director of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival, inaugurated the fourth edition of FIMUCITÉ during the press conference and accompanied by the Coordinator of Culture and Historic Heritage of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Mr Cristóbal de la Rosa, Aranzazu Gutiérrez, director of Cooperation and Cultural Heritage of the Canary Government and the Town Councillor from the cultural area of San Cristobal de La Laguna, Mrs Julia Dorta. Mr Navarro expressed his gratitude to all the institutions that have sponsored the festival this year, including the Town Halls of Granadilla and Arona that kindly share two magnificent infant choirs of over eighty voices.
The Festivals´ director highlighted the “exquisite line up of composers this year including Bruno Coulais and Carter Burwell, musical collaborator of the Coen brothers and who will thrill the public with a concert in La Laguna´s Leal Theatre accompanied by the Tenerife Film Ensemble; the chamber formation of the Tenerife Film Orchestra.” In addition, FIMUCITÉ will organize a spectacular thematic concert with the music from the renowned TV series Battlestar Galactica, directed by Bear McCreary and his band, together with the Symphonic Orchestra of Tenerife.
Other new features include the participation of the Guillermo Gonzalez music school of La Laguna and their Symphonic Band. The Fe Band, also from La Laguna who will give and open air concert in the town and likewise the Municipal Band from Santa Cruz who will play in the Capital. The opening concert, as highlighted by Mr Navarro, will be carried out the Santa Cruz Music Conservatoire Symphonic Band in the newly renovated Guimerá Theatre.
FIMUCITÉ 4 once again organizes a cycle of screenings, one of which is coordinated with the Canary Filmoteca centered on Alex North and another on Williams-Spielberg at the CajaCanarias Cultural Centre. There will also be interesting conferences and round tables for film music enthusiasts. The director of the festival disclosed that FIMUCITÉ and the Canary Filmoteca will present a third volume entitled The Williams Spielberg Connection.
Diego Navarro emphasized the active collaboration of the University of La Laguna and the fact that certain parallel activities will allow students to obtain credits for their study programs.
