CHRISTOPHER LENNERTZ SCORES “THE SIMPSONS GAME”

Nominated for Best Action Game of 2007 at 1UP Awards

(Los Angeles, CA) Award-winning composer Christopher Lennertz has the very animated score for EA’s “The Simpsons Game,” just nominated for Best Action Game of 2007 at the annual 1Up Awards. “The Simpsons Game” available for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 computer entertainment systems, PlayStation Portable (PSP) system, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS released in tandem with the ground-breaking series’ 400th episode. 1Up will announce the winners in February 2008.

With parodies of the video game industry, pop culture and current events, “The Simpsons Game” has the same subversive humor and smart wit as the critically acclaimed TV series where the Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie battle to break free of the video game world and save Springfield. With only a short time to develop the music, Lennertz worked with Timothy Wynn (The Punisher) for the bulk of the music. Wynn worked with Lennertz before on numerous projects including the recent “Warhawk” score and the music for TV’s “Supernatural.”

The pair recorded over and hour-and-a-half of music with a 75-piece orchestra at the famous Skywalker Ranch. Interestingly, they spent a week there recording separate sessions for different orchestra sections such as brass or strings in order to allow the score to react to what the player is doing at any point in the game. “As the level gets more intense, the music will do the same,” explains Lennertz. “Often times the games that were parodied had similarities to other music or scores…we focused mainly on the root of the music, rather than the various offshoots,” says Lennertz. “All in all, we tried to create a very focused style for each level that played to the conventions of that particular genre.”

No stranger to the world of composing for video games, Lennertz received the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Award for “Medal of Honor: Rising Sun.” His powerful, full orchestral score for the Stephen Spielberg-created videogame led him to score more “Medal of Honor” games (“Medal of Honor Pacific Assault” and “Medal of Honor European Assault”) as well as the popular James Bond videogame, “From Russia With Love.” Most recently he was celebrated for his epic score for the Western adventure game “Gun.”

Christopher Lennertz has composed for film and television as well as videogames. His music awards and nominations include, an Emmy for the CW’s “Supernatural,” three 2007 Film & TV Music Awards for “Supernatural” and “Tortilla Heaven,(collaborating with Ozomatli and The Don B. Ray Educational Achievement Award.

Lennertz’ musical education began at the age of nine. After learning to play the trumpet and guitar, he then studied composition, jazz arranging, and theory in high school. He moved to L.A. to study at USC’s film music program with composers David Raksin (Laura), Christopher Young (Spiderman 3) and Basil Poledoris (Conan The Barbarian).

Lennertz additional credits include: “Soul Plane” in which he collaborated with RZA (Wu-Tang Clan), “Baby Face Nelson,” “Art House,” Fox’s “Brimstone,” and MTV’s “Tough Enough,” which appeared on the Billboard top 100 charts for weeks. He recently scored the sports parody film, “The Comebacks,” the family romance “The Perfect Christmas,” and the live action/CGI hit, “Alvin & The Chipmunks.”

The 1UP Awards are voted on by the 14-million-plus online visitors of Ziff Davis Game Group’s leading gaming properties which include 1UP.com, FileFront.com, GameVideos.com, MyCheats.com and GameTab.com, “EGM” and “Games for Windows: The Official Magazine.”

TIM CURRAN SCORES JOHN FORD’S ‘HANGMAN’S HOUSE’

(Los Angeles, CA) Composer Tim Curran scores legendary director John Ford’s 1928 film “Hangman’s House,” part of the recently released and critically acclaimed “Ford at Fox” DVD box set produced by 20th Century Fox. The epic silent film, set in Ireland, features John Wayne in his first-ever role—as an uncredited extra—as well as Oscar-winner Victor McLaglen. The New York Times calls the DVD collection, “Quote to come…”

For “Hangman’s House,” Curran composed over 70 minutes of music, and his score covers an amazingly broad arc, from sweeping Irish-flavored themes and romantic melodies to playful counterpoint and modern motivic composition to help enhance the film’s dark, gothic scenes.

Curran comes from a jazz and classical background, having taken up the saxophone at age 11. He later studied guitar, and as an instrumentalist performed in many musical groups covering a vast variety of styles. That experience prepared him well for life as a composer, where for more than a decade he has been called upon to write everything from big-band jazz charts to Nashville country jingles, and from huge orchestral action cues to atmospheric soundscapes—and nearly everything in between.

Most recently, Curran has composed music for four documentaries on 20th Century Fox’s Collector’s Edition DVD of the Oscar-winning film “Twelve O’Clock High,” starring Gregory Peck, and is currently involved in various commercial projects for the Walt Disney Co., including Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Disney Wide World of Sports. He also recently composed a piece entitled “Music for Six Guitars and Percussion,” which he recorded with six of L.A.’s finest guitarists and legendary film music mixer Dan Wallin for a project involving wireless, digital, 7.1 surround-sound technology.

“Hangman’s House” is available now, as part of the “Ford at Fox” collection, in a mini-set entitled “John Ford’s Silent Epics,” and as an individual purchase.
